series: EPIC: Rooted in God #
Main Idea: #
Obviously yes, but how can we prove it? It anchors our life in the truth and gives us an outline of how to represent Jesus.
What creates our identity? #
Realistically, the core of our identity lies within two things.
- What we believe about ourself
- What others believe about us But these are shakeable. Culture changes. Our success, our interpretation of success. Approval of others. These expectations are constantly shifting. And if this is the case, then our image of ourself is fragile at best. We will perpetually chase worldly things. But instead, our purpose and identity should be found in Christ. For we are made in God’s image.
Where do we derive value? #
Do you understand how important and precious you are? Do you know what the cost of you is? The cost of your life was Jesus Christ’s life. Not to threaten you by saying that your life is owed to God, but that there was a man and a God who came down to earth to sacrifice their life for your sake. Just so that we would be able to have the opportunity to know our God, to live with him now and forever with eternal life.
If you truly understand this, completely, and wholly, then nothing on this earth should shake you. Nobody’s opinion of you should have any weight.
God’s word what is necessary to become a Christian #
Romans 10:17 says, “Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.” The spiritual food that comes from the word is more important than physical food that nourishes us.
It is through the word and spirit of God that we are able to fight through the storms of life. God is with us and is for us. He protects us and is our refuge. This is all understood through the Word of God. This is why it’s so important to continuously nourish our spiritual body. Whether it be a single verse, listening to worship music, praying and talking to God throughout the day. It is necessary for our growth to live as what God has called us to live.
God’s word is also authoritative #
There’s just mad history that’s connected. It’s archaeic 300 prophecies fulfilled from Old testament to New. 40 separate authors who all wrote with the same underlying purpose and message and everything connected. Over 10,000 manuscripts in Greek, thousands in Armaic and Hebrew. It’s the most well preserved text in the planet.
God’s word is also sufficient #
When we are alone with God, that is when we hear his voice the best. It’s where we find his voice, guidance, and direction. It’s how we can become the best version of ourself! But that’s not to say that we are to be alone all the time. Community is so important.
God calls us to be disciples #
What does this mean? Discipleship is a commitment to yourself and to Jesus to transform yourself to be more like him, and helping others to do the same as well. We are called to live a life that abides in Christ.
