From Bitterness to Blessing

From Bitterness to Blessing

verse: #

Main Idea: #

When we experience suffering, we often become bitter. But it’s important to note that it’s not because of the suffering itself, but rather that we believe that we don’t deserve to suffer.

The Israelites were forced to break down their idols and values and learn to trust the Will of God. The Lord our God isn’t someone who ensures that our lives are easy. He doesn’t want us to have everything go our way. Instead, he will build us up and help us to experience Him as our ultimate provider.

The Greatest Enemy of America: Hustle Culture #

Society encourages us to be super busy. To have power, affluence, to have great social influence. All of these things will unfortunately make us go spiritually numb. The devil works in subtle ways. He wants you to put your hope into the money you make, the job you have, the grades you get, or even ungodly relationships such as misguided friends and girls. But if you put your hope in these things (that most of us consider good), we stop putting our hope into the Cross. And the Cross is our single source of true joy.

In Verse 25, we see that Moses cries out a single prayer, and God provides immediately.

Horizontal vs Vertical venting #

When we complain about our lives with others, it can often lead to both bitterness and also gossip. Neither of these are good things, and unfortunately, these are things that often occur in the church. Of course it’s okay to vent our frustration and burdens, but be careful as to not let this affect the lives of others. Take those things in private and grumble to God instead. He will listen, provide restoration of your heart, and grow your spirit.

In verse 27, we see that God reveals himself as a healer, and immediately after the Israelites stumble across 12 bountiful springs of flowing water. The p0int of this verse is to prove that the Lord our God is a healer, a provider, and a caretaker. You just have to fully trust in our God in all situations. This should encourage us to center our frustrations to the Lord Almighty and trust in him with all of our struggles.
