Living Unshaken in Shaken Circumstances

Living Unshaken in Shaken Circumstances

series: Receiving God’s Light #

verse: Matthew 2:1-15 #

The Christmas story. And if we focus on verse 10, we can find joy in shaken experiences when we can see that God continues to guide our lives.

Introduction: #

We live in a world that often shakes us. Meaning that we experience uncertainty, hardships, and unhappiness.

Main Idea: #

What am I pursuing? #

The wise men were astrologists and well educated gentiles. They were looking for a meaning of life. But when these wise men had arrived to Jerusalem, they were so confident that the King of the Jews had been born, they immediately ask, “Where is he”, rather than, “Is it true?”.

I think that often times these days we act as our own kings. We brew over decisions, contemplating, “Was this the right decision? Am I making the right decision?”. We are in need of a perfect authority. Our hearts are yearning for someone to make these correct decisions for us. There needs to be a confidence that we’re living accordingly to our purpose.

God by his divine intervention, gave this opportunity to the wise men.

Why am I pursuing it? #

In verse 2, the wise men’s motivation for pursuing the king was not for their own satisfaction or to verify their own claims. But it was actually to worship Jesus that they came. Not the pursuit of knowledge, no personal gain, but purely for worship.

How then can we live an unshaken life? #

In verse 10, it reads, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy.” Before they had even met mary or Jesus, they were joyful and ready. They were overjoyed just from simply having a glimpse of the star. This means that an unshaken life follows God’s guidance.

They were being guided by God, but most importantly they pursued it. They listened to God’s call. They allowed themselves to be led by God. Hold fast to the idea that God is constantly guiding and leading us. God’s word reveals us our path and helps us make the decisions we need to make. God is not guiding us through symbols, stars, and things of this nature. But instead he gave us his only Son, Jesus Christ.

Reflecting the light of Christ means to live unshaken lives. That we would hold on to the truth of God and pursue him no matter the circumstance. That the way we carry ourselves would reflect the light of Christ to those around us. To our family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, strangers, everyone.
