Doing God’s work is two things: Evangelism and Edification
The Lord’s work requires intentional mission #
In verse 5 of 1 Corinthians 16, Paul plans to visit Timothy in Corinth as he’s passing by. And he’s open and flexible because God’s plan requires us to be open. And it’s important to consider that our own will is usually in opposition of filfilling the Lord’s.
Faithfully preaching God’s Word produces faithful people.
Paul’s preaching led to silver smiths hatred for him. And they went so far as to try and lynch him. Because Paul was causing less people to buy silver for sacrifice. But in the face of opposition, he sees it as an opportunity rather than an obstacle. He’s ready to continue preaching without fear, and he does so faithfully.
Gospel readiness leads to Gospel effectiveness. So ask yourself, “Are you ready?”
The Lord’s work requires strong leadership #
1 Corinthians 16:12-16
Be watchful
- Lead your people and be observant. Be mindful and wary of what they’re doing. Stand firm in the faith
- To stand firm means: that even when the enemy is rushing you, you hold your ground. Our enemy is Satan and we must affirm that we won’t falter and that we are ready.
The Lord’s work requires leaning into love #
1 Corinthians 16:19-24 Everything that we do must be done in love. Bless those who long for Christ. And those who have no love for God will be accursed. We must lean into one another. Lift each other up and love on them. As Christians, we need to lift one another up.
If you can’t speak the TRUTH in LOVE, don’t do it edifiy and encourage, rather than shame and tear down.
